How to Test a Character Name After You Spin

A strong character name should fit the world, remain distinct from the rest of the cast, and sound believable when it appears in an actual scene.

Put it inside the world

Compare the result with your setting’s language, era, culture, and genre. A neon sci-fi alias and an ancient fantasy title follow different rules—even when both sound magnificent.

Check it against the cast

Say the candidate beside your other character names. If several begin with the same sound, share a rhythm, or look too similar on the page, keep spinning for a clearer contrast.

Drop it into a real scene
