INSIDE THE SPIN

How the Wheel Chooses a Result

Spin the Wheel Lab selects each result with cryptographically strong random values generated by your browser. The winner is chosen from the entries and weights currently on the wheel—then the animation carries the wheel to that result.

No mysterious wheel physics. No last-second switch. Just controlled chaos with documented rules.

ANIMATION ROLE Presents the result already selected

Quick answer: the selection system chooses the result. The animation controls how that result is revealed.

THE SHORT ANSWER

The result comes first. The animation follows.

What you see spinning is the reveal—not the mechanism deciding which entry wins.

RANDOM SELECTION · TECHNICAL OBSERVATION R-02

Spin the Wheel Lab uses your browser to generate a cryptographically strong random value.

The wheel maps that value across the active entries according to their weights and selects one result. That result is then passed into the main wheel animation.

Winner selection uses the browser’s crypto.getRandomValues() method—not JavaScript’s standard Math.random() function.

ANIMATION ROLE Displays the result already selected

The animation cannot switch the selected entry. Speed, sounds, easing, and visual effects change the presentation—not the chosen result.

SELECTION SEQUENCE · 03

BEHIND THE BUTTON

One spin. Four steps.

The wheel follows the same selection sequence each time. It checks the available choices, calculates their probability ranges, selects one result, and then begins the main wheel animation.

  1. 01 STEP 01

The wheel checks the active entries

The wheel uses the choices currently available for selection. If Eliminate removed a previous result, that entry is no longer part of the next spin unless it is restored.

  2. 02 STEP 02

Each entry receives a probability range

Entries with equal weights receive equal shares of the total probability. Increasing an entry’s weight intentionally gives it a larger share.

  3. 03 STEP 03

Your browser generates a random value

Spin the Wheel Lab requests a cryptographically strong random value from the browser. That value is matched to one of the wheel’s cumulative probability ranges.

  4. 04 STEP 04

The wheel presents the selected result

The chosen entry is passed into the main animation. The wheel then rotates to display the result that was already selected.

What the animation controls: timing, speed, easing, sounds, and presentation. What it does not control: which entry wins.

EQUAL-WEIGHT WHEELS

Do equal entries have equal chances?

Yes. When every active entry has the same weight, each entry receives the same selection probability on every spin.

SPECIMEN A EQUAL PROBABILITY
25%
EACH ENTRY · EQUAL WEIGHTS

Four entries with equal weights

Each entry holds one of the four available weight units.

Each spin is a new selection. Unless you remove or eliminate a result, an entry remains eligible even when it won the previous spin.

CONTROL THE PROBABILITY

How do weighted wheels work?

A weight changes an entry’s chance relative to the total weight of every active entry. A higher weight makes a result more likely—it does not guarantee that result will win.

CALCULATION CHAMBER 01 / 02

THE FORMULA

One entry’s share of the total

The wheel adds all active weights together. Each entry’s weight is then divided by that total to determine its expected probability.

EXPECTED PROBABILITY Entry weight ÷ total active weight
Changing one entry’s weight also changes every other entry’s percentage because all probabilities share the same total.

THE REVEAL, NOT THE DECISION

Does the animation decide the winner?

No. The main wheel animation displays a result that has already been selected.

HOW THE RESULT REACHES THE WHEEL

The wheel selects an entry from the active choices and their weights before the main rotation begins. The chosen entry is then passed into the animation so the wheel can finish on that result.

An animated wheel may appear to slow near one segment before continuing to another. That movement is part of the visual sequence—not evidence that an entry was favored, rejected, or switched at the last moment.

  • Which active entry wins
  • How an entry’s weight is calculated

REPEAT DETECTION · 07

RANDOM DOESN’T MEAN ALTERNATING

Why did the same result appear again?

Because repeat results are a normal part of random selection. A previous winner is not automatically less likely merely because it appeared on the last spin.

SPECIMEN A REPEAT PROBABILITY
50% CHANCE ON EACH SPIN

Each spin starts with the current wheel

Unless Eliminate is active, the wheel uses the same active entries and weights again. Past results do not change the next selection automatically.

This means a name, prize, or choice can win twice in a row—or several times during a short session—even when all entries have equal weights.

SIMPLE TWO-ENTRY EXAMPLE
If two entries have equal weights, each receives a 50% chance on every spin. The entry that just won still has a 50% chance on the next spin.

Before starting a no-repeat round, confirm how many distinct winners you need and make sure the wheel contains enough eligible entries.

TEST THE CURRENT SETUP

What does Spin Science test?

Spin Science runs 10,000 simulated selections using the wheel’s current entries, weights, and winner-selection method. It compares each entry’s expected probability with the percentage observed during the test.

SIMULATION COUNTER UNIT 08

SCIENTIFIC OBSERVATION · 08-A

Expected odds meet observed results

For every entry, Spin Science shows its weight, expected percentage, observed selection count, and observed percentage. This helps you inspect whether the setup behaves as expected across a large test batch.

The simulation uses the same weighted-selection function used by a regular wheel spin. It performs the selections without running 10,000 full visual animations.

TEST CHAMBER A CAPABILITIES
OBSERVABLE TEST RESULTS
WHAT IT CAN HELP YOU CHECK

Inspect the wheel’s setup

  • Whether the entries currently have equal weights
  • How custom weights change expected probabilities
  • How often each entry appeared during the simulation
  • Whether an accidental weight change affected the setup
  • How observed percentages compare with expected percentages
TEST CHAMBER B LIMITATIONS
OUTSIDE TEST SCOPE
WHAT IT CANNOT DO

Predict or certify a result

  • Predict the next winner
  • Guarantee a future sequence
  • Make a weighted wheel equal-chance
  • Prove that a short run will look perfectly balanced
  • Certify a giveaway, contest, or drawing
  • Verify that the entries themselves are eligible or complete

Variation is expected. Observed percentages will normally differ somewhat from expected percentages. The test examines a large simulated batch; it does not promise what will happen during any individual spin.

CLEAR CLAIMS. NO LAB-COAT BLUFFING.

Is Spin the Wheel Lab “certified fair”?

No independent certification or third-party audit is claimed. Spin the Wheel Lab documents its selection process and provides tools for inspecting the current wheel setup.

What transparency means here

The wheel’s random source, weighted-selection method, winner timing, and testing behavior can be described from the implementation. Spin Science lets users compare expected probabilities with results from a large simulated test.

Those details provide useful evidence about how the wheel operates. They do not turn the site into an independent auditor, regulator, or certification service.

PRIZES, DRAWINGS & GIVEAWAYS

Can I use the wheel for a giveaway?

Yes—the wheel can randomly select from the entries you provide. It does not verify eligibility, establish promotion rules, or independently audit the drawing.

Prepare the drawing before you spin

A trustworthy result starts with a reviewed list and rules that were established in advance. Complete these checks before the official selection begins.

  1. Establish the rules and eligibility requirements Decide who may enter, how entries are counted, what can be won, and when the drawing takes place.
  2. Verify the final entrant list Confirm that every intended participant is present and remove anyone who is not eligible.
  3. Remove headings, blank rows, and accidental duplicates Review imported or pasted data before it becomes part of the official drawing.
  4. Review every entry’s weight Keep weights equal when every entry should have the same chance. Disclose intentional weighting before the draw.
  5. Decide how invalid or repeat results will be handled Set any redraw, elimination, alternate-winner, or disqualification procedure before spinning.
  6. Test the complete setup Check the list, settings, winner controls, display, and sharing method before the official round.
  7. Preserve your source information Keep an independent copy of the entrant list, rules, and other important records outside the wheel.

THE FINAL LAB NOTE

Built for decisions.
Not destiny.

A wheel is useful when a set of acceptable choices needs one impartial pick. You prepare the options and rules. Spin the Wheel Lab selects among the active entries using the probabilities you configure.

You choose the options. The Lab chooses among them.
Use human judgment when the stakes are high. A random wheel should not replace qualified judgment for medical, legal, financial, employment, emergency, safety-critical, or other high-stakes decisions.
