Welcome to Spin the Wheel Lab

A practical tool with a playful point of view

Spin the Wheel Lab began with a real teaching need: finding a more engaging way to bring variety, participation, and surprise into online lessons. What started with a simple spinning wheel has grown into a creative Lab for decisions, learning, games, activities, and everyday fun.

The idea behind the Lab is simple: useful tools do not have to be boring.

Where the idea began

It started in an online classroom

While teaching children English reading skills and phonics online, I looked for interactive tools that could make lessons feel more varied and help students participate enthusiastically. Random wheels had potential, but many of the available options felt more functional than imaginative.

A teaching need

I wanted an easy way to choose activities, reading prompts, rewards, and turns while keeping students interested in what would happen next.

A useful starting point

A spinning wheel could introduce choice and surprise, but the experience seemed capable of being more creative, flexible, and enjoyable.

A much bigger experiment

That classroom idea gradually expanded into a platform for educators, families, creators, businesses, events, games, and everyday decisions.

What if an ordinary spinning wheel could become an entire world of creativity, entertainment, learning, and discovery?

Spin the Wheel Lab grew from that question—and the experiment is still evolving.

Meet the founder

Different experiences, one creative philosophy

My academic background is in philosophy, political science, and biomedical ethics. I began my professional career working in university research compliance, where I helped make complicated clinical-research rules and requirements easier for people to understand and apply.

After relocating to Mexico, I became an entrepreneur and opened several independent businesses, including a donut shop and a corn dog shop. Those experiences taught me about experimentation, customer experience, persistence, and the unpredictable reality of turning an idea into something people can actually use.

I later returned to education through online reading and phonics instruction. That combination of education, entrepreneurship, careful communication, and creative experimentation eventually came together in Spin the Wheel Lab.

  • Research and ethics: thinking carefully about information, responsibility, and clear explanations.
  • Entrepreneurship: learning through experimentation and building experiences for real customers.
  • Education: discovering how play, variety, and anticipation can help people stay engaged.

Beyond the Lab

A little more about the person building it

Spin the Wheel Lab reflects both my professional experiences and the things I value in everyday life: curiosity, creativity, learning, and finding a little fun in the unexpected.

Family

I’m a mom

Being a parent influences how I think about approachable tools, playful learning, and experiences that can be enjoyed by people with different ages and interests.

Animals

I’m an animal lover

Animals have a special place in my life and are part of the warmth, humor, and sense of personality I enjoy bringing to creative projects.

Still learning

Music and a guitar

I love music and am learning to play the guitar—a useful reminder that being new at something can be challenging, rewarding, and genuinely fun.

I do not believe creativity belongs only to experts. The Lab is built for people who like to try things, adjust them, learn as they go, and see what happens when a practical idea is given room to become something more.

The character behind the controls

Why Professor Vortex runs the Lab

I did not want to build another anonymous wheel generator. I imagined a place with its own personality—an inventive laboratory where useful tools, playful experiments, and a little eccentricity could exist together.

Professor Vortex grew from that idea. He is the fictional host of the Lab: curious, enthusiastic, occasionally unpredictable, and always ready to turn an ordinary activity into an experiment.

His world gives Spin the Wheel Lab a recognizable voice while leaving the real work of building, reviewing, and improving the site with the human founder behind it.

What the Lab has become

More than a wheel with a spin button

The original teaching tool has grown into a flexible creative platform. People can use it for classroom participation, games, rewards, events, business activities, difficult decisions, or simply answering the timeless question: “What should we do?”

Create

Build a wheel for the moment

Add names, choices, activities, prizes, or ideas, then adjust the wheel to suit a lesson, event, game, decision, or personal project.

Customize

Make the experience your own

Colors, textures, center artwork, stickers, sounds, and other creative controls allow a practical tool to take on a distinct personality.

Experiment

Explore different ways to play

Weighted choices, multi-pick activities, elimination-style rounds, surprise effects, and other modes support more than one kind of wheel experience.

Understand

Look beneath the spin

Spin Science and the How Randomness Works page help visitors explore probability, weighted outcomes, repeat results, and the selection process behind the animation.

Organize

Keep useful ideas together

Wheel-management tools make it easier to work with choices, revisit useful setups, and prepare an experience for a classroom, gathering, or activity.

Discover

Start with inspiration

Themed wheels and creative collections can help when you know you want to spin but are not quite sure what should go on the wheel yet.

The common thread is purposeful play. Every feature should help the wheel become more useful, understandable, expressive, or enjoyable—not merely more complicated.

The philosophy behind the Lab

What guides the work

New ideas are measured against a few principles that help the Lab remain useful while preserving the personality that makes it different.

  • Useful before complicated

A feature should solve a real problem, support an activity, or make the wheel easier to use. More options are not automatically better if they make the experience harder to understand.

  • Playfulness with purpose

Color, surprise, humor, and imagination are not treated as decorations alone. They can help turn participation and decision-making into something people want to engage with.

  • Clarity builds trust

Visitors should be able to understand what the wheel does, how selection works, and where limitations exist. The Lab aims to explain its behavior without pretending that every question has a magical answer.

  • Keep learning

The Lab is an evolving independent project. Feedback, accessibility needs, changing technology, and real-world use all provide opportunities to improve it over time.

My background in ethics, education, and entrepreneurship has taught me to ask not only whether an idea can be built, but also whether it is understandable, useful, and considerate of the people who will use it.

Behind the experiments

Built with curiosity—and checked with care

Spin the Wheel Lab is an independently developed project. I shape its ideas, personality, educational direction, and visitor experience while continuing to study how its tools can become more useful and understandable.

That work includes testing wheel behavior, reviewing how features operate on different screen sizes, documenting meaningful changes, and examining accessibility as the site evolves.

The Lab is playful, but its explanations should still be accurate. When a feature has an important limitation, the goal is to describe it plainly instead of hiding it behind Professor Vortex’s lab coat.

The Lab will continue to change as features are tested and improved. The information pages above are intended to keep those changes easier to understand and verify.

Where the Lab is going

The experiment is still getting started

The long-term goal is not simply to add more buttons to a random wheel. It is to develop a creative destination where practical tools, playful activities, and thoughtful design work together.

Direction one

More useful experiences

Continue improving wheels and activities for education, families, events, creators, businesses, and everyday decision-making.

Direction two

More creative freedom

Expand the ways visitors can personalize, remix, and adapt the Lab’s tools while keeping the experience approachable.

Direction three

A more inclusive Lab

Keep improving accessibility, clarity, device support, and the ability for people in more places to enjoy the experience.

The vision is a little like combining the usefulness of a decision tool, the freedom of a creative studio, and the anticipation of an arcade—then placing it all inside Professor Vortex’s imaginative laboratory.

These are long-term directions rather than promises of specific features or release dates. Confirmed releases will be documented on the What’s New page.

Come experiment with us

There is always room for one more idea in the Lab

Whether you are choosing a classroom activity, planning a game, organizing an event, exploring probability, or deciding what to have for dinner, I hope Spin the Wheel Lab makes the moment a little easier—and considerably more fun.

What began as my search for a better teaching tool has become an ongoing experiment in making everyday interactions more creative, surprising, and enjoyable. Thanks for being part of it.
